The decriminalize education and police-free school movement did not start this year. This movement has existed for decades. For our young people to feel safe, thrive, and succeed in education, we must remove police from schools and provide more holistic supports. This includes restorative practices, mental health supports, wraparound services, and eliminating punitive and carceral discipline practices.

This conversation includes educators and advocates who are reimagining safety in schools through holistic approaches, including mental health supports, restorative practices, wellness, and the community school model. Panelists include:

  • Art McCoy, Ph.D., CEO/Superintendent of Schools, Jennings Public School District, SAGES LLC and 501c3, Jennings, MO
  • Youth Advocate, VOYCE Project, Chicago, IL
